Giving Something Back to the Residents and Business Owners of Hollyhedge Road, Wythenshawe.
Planet Surfacing was recently approached by staff representing Mike Kane who is MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East. They asked if it would be possible for us to put in a drop kerb on the pavement at Hollyhedge shops in Wythenshawe.
The purpose of a drop kerb is to provide access and allows for safe, off-road parking. In this instance the drop kerb was needed in order for people to access shops such as the local bakery and pharmacy as well as the post office and local Motor World.
While there are parking spaces available at Hollyhedge shops, a drop kerb was required to improve accessibility for mobility scooters and wheelchairs etc. When the flats on Hollyhedge Road were recently renovated the contractors were supposed to put in the drop kerb at the same time, but this was never done.
Our response when asked by the MP’s staff was that we were more than happy to help out and completed the work free of charge. At Planet Surfacing we work on the basis that sometimes it’s good to give back to the community and as we are residents of the South Manchester area we are pleased when we are given the opportunity to help our neighbours and give something back to the local people.
