At Your Convenience! Convert a Public Toilet

Have you ever thought about converting a public toilet? Most of us probably haven’t, but that is exactly what a recent client of Planet Surfacing did. They bought an old run-down toilet in the Moss Side area of Manchester and completely renovated the whole building, turning it into………a health juice bar.

How did Planet Surfacing get involved? As well as land to the side and front of the building there was a large open space at the back of it. This all needed improving and landscaping. Our clients asked us to install pattern imprinted concrete in Moss Side, Manchester, around the building including a lovely patio area at the back for seating. For the pattern imprinted concrete in Moss Side, Manchester, they chose La Harbre slate for the pattern, coloured in classic grey. This smartened up the outside space, creating a modern, sleek finish.

In addition, we included raised planters for shrubs to grow, along with fence panels. Everything perfectly complemented each other linking the building to the outside space, from the grey window frames to the classic grey pattern imprinted concrete to the dark grey fencing. For added interest we included a decorative feature at the front entrance of the building which was a pin wheel. For the back of the building our clients requested a ying yang pattern. As we didn’t think we could source a mat in this pattern to print onto the concrete, we made our own only to find that we could have rented one. If you have any specific features or additional detailing that you want to include, we will always go the extra mile to accommodate them.

We also incorporated a large step at the back door, a ramp for ease of access at the front door, as well as adding a recessed manhole, all covered in the same pattern imprinted concrete and creating a seamless finish. In order to make the whole area SUDs compliant we included an ACOS drain. You can see the stunning results from the photographs included as well as the pin wheel and the ying yang features. This was a very large area to cover but no job is too big for Planet Surfacing.
